Demi-Fafnir  is an enemy found in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight, and serves as the boss of the fourth floor of Ginnungagap.

This armored, hulking flame monster is result of one who failed to become a Fafnir knight, not having neither its humanity left, nor the power of the Fafnir. It fights with claw weapons attached to its armor, and controls fire at will.

Story Mode[]

After the protagonist has completed all the trials of Ginnungagap, he has been deemed worthy of inheriting the power of the Black Guardian and can continue the Fafnir's duty of maintaining the seal that contains the Calamity. As the protagonist approaches the Door of Boundaries to complete the ritual in spite of Arianna's protests, Bertrand intervenes, revealing that he was also chosen to be the Fafnir Knight a century ago, but his circumstances led to the anomaly that weakened the seal in Ginnungagap.

Despite this, the protagonist completes the ritual and begins to inherit the power of the Black Guardian. However, the rest of the party chooses to break into Ginnungagap to try and negotiate a compromise. With the transference system recognizing two Fafnir Knights in the premises, it mistakenly begins transferring the power to Bertrand. The party is directed to break the power circuits across the floor to interrupt the transference ritual. Still, they are too late, and the power of Fafnir overwhelms Bertrand, transforming him into the Demi-Fafnir.

To ensure that the Ritual completes as intended, the Black Guardian bestows the protagonist with the last of her strength. The protagonist's Force Break transforms into Akashic Nova and he gets a new look to his transformation. It's now up to the party to defeat the Demi-Fafnir to save Bertrand's life and set things right.

Classic Mode[]

After the party has cleared the trials imposed on them by the earlier floors of Ginnungagap, the Black Guardian guides them along one final trial. They are directed across B4F to break the seals so they can enter the Hall of Succession. It is there where the party faces the Demi-Fafnir, a manifestation of the ruins' powers. The Black Guardian challenges the party to defeat the Demi-Fafnir if they are to learn of the Calamity that sleeps in the depths of the place.

Trivia[]

  • The Demi-Fafnir was meant to be part of a triumvirate of bosses in Ginnungagap, with the Frost King and Thunder Queen representing the other two elements. This explains the similarity in design between them. The latter two were scrapped and now appear as DLC bosses.
