The Dragoon is one of the ten classes in Etrian Odyssey V. An Earthlain class, they wield both shield and heavy artillery to shell foes from afar and protect their allies. In addition, they can construct defensive structures called bunkers to draw enemy attacks. They draw parallels to the previous games' Protector, Hoplite, and Fortress.
The Shield Bearer specializes in guarding. They gain better defensive abilities and a monstrous bonus to HP, Vitality and Wisdom.
- Strengths: By far the tankiest class available in the game. Guard skills provide utility to the party.
- Weaknesses: Poor damage output. Costly Guard skills are confounded by their low TP bonus.
The Cannon Bearer specializes in cannon fire, with the ability to attack at different points in the turn or even inflict ailments through their shots, and receive a better Strength, Agility and Luck bonus.
- Strengths: Good offensive support to the party on turns when defense isn't needed.
- Weaknesses: Requires good timing of offensive and defensive skills to master - abandoning a guard skill for a delayed attack can result in an untimely wipeout.

Origin The term "dragoon" has historically referred to mounted infantry, soldiers who travelled on horseback but fought on foot. The name "dragoon" came from a gun of the same name, a heavy pistol used by mounted troops that traditionally had a dragon ornament around the muzzle.
