Limits is a mechanic in Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City.

These powerful skills, after earned via Key Items called Scripts, can be used by one or more party members, granting several benefits, from healing and buffs to heavy elemental damage to the enemy party. They must be equipped on the Custom ---> Limit menu before you can use the skills.

Despite most offensive skills using more than a single attacker, the damage inflicted is dependent solely on the stats of the character who "started" the skill. For that reason, it's better to leave it to offensive characters to use said skills.

Also, it's worth noting that limit skills does not consume a turn. That means that you can take actions normally during that turn, the limit counting as a "bonus" action. This works with, for example, Zodiac's skill Etheric Charge, using it on the turn you cast one of the three elemental limits, will greatly boost the power of said skill.

The scripts that grant said skills are scattered through the game, either on chests on the labyrinth, rewards from quests at the pub and sea quests. Sea quests are the main way to obtain them, since every time you complete one for the first time, you will earn a new Limit skill.

Sungrazer 4 Deals almighty damage to one enemy at the start of a turn. Trade City of Damavand
Regroup Tactic 3 The party will recover HP and heal ailments at the end of a turn. Lasts 5 turns. Dark Forest
Typhoon Bolt 2 Deals Volt damage to random enemies at the end of a turn. B16F
Aegis Shield 4 Negates all damage to the party. Tower of Victory
Quintessence 5 Deals Physical damage to the enemy party at the end of the turn. Trade City of Aeaea
Star Smasher 5 Deals powerful Physical damage to an enemy at the start of a turn. B20F
