Shellord (Etrian Odyssey I) Edit
Shellords are FOEs first encountered on B26F. They only move one tile for every two that you do, and tend to follow a predetermined path instead of chase you. Following their path on the B27F guarantees that you won't fall into a pit. There is one Shellord on the B26F, 10 on the B27F, and 4 more of them on the B29F. While it is best to avoid these brutes, you may have to fight them in order to reach the optional treasures scattered in the sixth stratum.
The Shellord has a party fire attack. You can mitigate its damage with Antifire, Fire Mist, and/or Immunize. It can also attack one of your team members normally. The Shellord, like many FOEs, resists Instant Death and Binds.

Conditional Drop Edit
- In order to get the Shellord's conditional drop, the Old Shell, you must kill it with a non-Bash elemental attack.

Nether Tortoise (Etrian Odyssey Untold) Edit
|Items||Millennial Shell, Tempered Shell (Conditional)|
|Resistance||All Physical, Fire, Volt|
The Nether Tortoise is a FOE that is found in the 6th stratum, the Claret Hollows. Although defeatable with proper planning and equipment, it is still recommended to bypass them when possible. As it takes two party steps for it to move one step, you are able to bypass some Nether Tortoises by strategically using warp points. Get within 3 squares of it, and it will turn aggressive and pursue the party without pausing every other step.
If you do get into a battle with one, prepare for a tough battle. They have a high attack and defense, and are resistant to everything but ice attacks. However, on the upside, Nether Tortoises only have two attacks: their standard attack and the skill Fire Breath, which is a devastating fire attack that hits the entire party.
- Fire Breath (Uses head): Ranged fire attack to the party, may bind arms.
Conditional Drop Edit
- To get the Tempered Shell, you must finish it off with a physical attack. Physical attacks that instakill or petrify, or physical attacks that have elemental attributes, also work. Selling that to the shop unlocks the Apocalypse, the strongest armor for the Highlander.
