The Pasaran are a strange kind of FOE inhabiting all strata of Etrian Odyssey III. Unlike every other FOE in the game, these can phase through walls, and will actually try as hard as they can to avoid the player, making it similar to the Yggdrasil Bud from the first game. Despite being able to phase through walls, they only move one space every four turns. Pasaran on B24F will not move, making them easy targets.

Every stratum has a specific kind of pasaran living within, and each of these has their own entry in the Monstrous Codex, even though they share the name. The last two Strata only contain Blue Pasaran. When you hit a Blue Pasaran with an elemental attack, it will spawn another Pasaran of the element's color (Blue for Ice, Red for Fire and Yellow for Volt).

Their FOE avatar is golden.

Skills Edit

Each pasaran has the skills listed in their specific monsterbox.

  • Can run away (uses legs)
  • Self-Destruct (uses head): Strike damage to entire party. Kills Pasaran. Does not give experience.
  • Change Stance (Uses ???): Transforms into a first-stratum Pasaran, adjusting experience yield correspondingly.
  • Multiply (Uses ???): Activates when hit by an elemental attack. Spawns a Pasaran of the corresponding element. Cannot be used on the same turn it is spawned itself.
  • Combust (Uses ???): Fire damage to entire party.
  • Unload (Uses ???): Volt damage to entire part. Destroys drop.

TriviaEdit

  • Although the 4th Sratum Pasaran is described as "drifting in the magma cave", it is actually found in the Abyssal Shrine.
  • Real-life pasaran are actually thistledown, thistle seeds that are dispersed by the wind, sometimes floating for huge distances in a way similar to dandelion seeds.
  • In Japan, there is a belief that the kesaran pasaran, believed to be a youkai, can bring luck and happiness, so they are collected in jars with face powder and kept as a charm.
