Toxipede (Etrian Odyssey V)[]
Toxipedes are an FOE found on 2F of the Tutelary Forest. They patrol back and forth in a linear fashion.
The most reliable way to defeat a Toxipede is with the tried-and-true method of "coming back later when you're 20 levels higher and mopping the floor with them".
Even if you're under-leveled (especially with the demo's level cap of 10), it's still not too hard with the right setup. The Toxipede only has its regular attack and Poison Fang, both of which are single-target. The poison can easily remove 50-60 points of health at the end of the turn, which can be lethal.
A Fencer using Predict every turn can let you avoid all damage, provided you have enough offense to kill the Toxipede before your Fencer runs out of TP. Binding its head will disable its most dangerous attack, though it can still hit fairly hard to front-line party members. Bunkers can effectively negate most of the Toxipede's offensive threat as they take negligible damage and cannot be affected by ailments.

Toxipede (Etrian Odyssey Nexus)[]
The Toxipede returns as an FOE in the Northern Shrine, and has its abilities dramatically scaled up to be on par with the expected strength this late in the game.
Like before, it patrols a fixed path, and this path can be modified by shifting the positions of moving blocks. The movement of a Toxipede can interrupt the movement of these blocks midway.
In combat, the Toxipede's upgraded its skill set. Toxic Comet is now a multi-hit skill that can inflict poison. This is all a setup for its finishing move Riposte Fang, a line-piercing skill that attempts to instakill anyone with an ailment. Riposte Fang will only be used if anyone's been afflicted with an ailment.
Like before, a head bind will render the Toxipede completely helpless, but its newfound resistance to that bind will make inflicting it difficult.
Skills[]
- Toxic Comet (Uses Head): 4-6 random melee cut attacks across the party. May poison.
- Riposte Fang (Uses Head): Line-piercing cut attack that may instakill ailing targets.
Drops[]
- Metal Pincer (Worth: 12400 en)

Trivia[]
- The Toxipede shares many similarities with the Greedy Lizard in Etrian Odyssey III, in that they both are the very first FOEs encountered, patrol back-and-forth in linear paths on the second floor, and have a poisonous bite that can be shut down by binding the head.
